What came first, the chicken or the egg?

(Not a trick, prize is for real!)

The egg. Before that there was a pre-chicken animal.

Organisms have the same DNA they were born with throughout their life (not including minor mutations), but offspring have a compromise between the DNA of their parents. If we are to assume that the parent of the first animal to be considered a chicken was not a chicken (a T-rex, maybe several hundred million years ago?), then the answer is the Egg. Which came first, the organism, the embryo it grew from, or the parents that produced it?
Parents→Embryo→Offspring
Because we only care about the first chicken, the parents are irrelevant.

ChicChic+kenken→chicken embryo→chicken

Both the meatballs and pasta have existed before time. The both were created at the exact same moment. Except the FSM was there before that, too.

The species of the chicken is a species that resulted from the crossbreeding of red junglefowl and the grey junglefowl.
Because the chicken was not a new species created by mutations, the egg came first.

Now time for BS answers.

Chicken, it comes first in the sentence.
Chicken, it is ealier in the dictionary.
Egg, many animals laid eggs before the chicken existed.
If a chicken egg is an egg laid by a chicken, then its the chicken.
Red/grey junglefowl > red and gre junglefowl's egg > Chicken > chicken egg

Because you didn't specify if you are asking what came first "The Chicken, or the Chicken Egg" the correct answer based upon your wording would simply be egg. Eggs were around far before a chicken ever was. With the way the question is worded, you are only asking about eggs and not chicken eggs *winks* Eggs win.

Egg also wins based upon the fact that the chicken had to hatch from something, regardless of where that egg came from.

If a bear laid an egg, and a chicken came from that egg. The egg would not be called a bear egg, it would be called a chicken egg because a chicken came from it.

As I stated earlier (as others have as well) the correct answer is egg. The parents that resulted in the creation of what would eventually become "chicken" laid an egg, and produced chicken. Based upon that, the only answer is egg came first.
