This is the second version of a competition dedicated to creating missions on a common theme. There are a myriad of ways to approach a mission. Give it your best shot!

I challenge any and all to create a mission that relates to the concept of ... independence. Think of this as a PMOG version of the radio show This American Life (http://thisamericanlife.org/) in which people produce segments on a common theme.

The three best three missions will each get a prizes of 1000DPs. Missions linked to this thread by midnight Sunday, July 20th are all in the running.

I will pick three winners the following week based on both the selection of sites as well as ways in which the authors choose to connect them.

Got a compelling mission in mind? Go for it! Have a compelling series of portals? That's great too.

Questions? Feel free to message me.

Have fun!

There is a little less than a week to go! Hope you are thinking about missions. There are lots of ways to construe a mission about independence.

I hope this proves to be a good theme. There were great missions from the last competition. If you have suggestions for the next theme, feel free to contribute them here. Got suggestions for criteria for the context? Contribute theme here too.

There's 6 days to go!

Pica.

Pica is referring to his last mission making contest in which no one even posted until the last day.

One more day to go! I am looking forward to taking a bunch of missions tomorrow. If you are thinking about it, time to get pointing and clicking!

I'll post to the forum and stash DPs on Monday.

Thanks, Rheasparrow! Your mission is a really interesting take on the theme of independence. The sites were well selected and complemented one another really well. Your text stitched them all together nicely.

You know, when I have seen the boomerang stories in the news, I have wondered if those of us in North American aren't just slowly returning to the tradition of living in extended families. Perhaps the emphasis on nuclear families in 18 year increments was the fad people should be talking about.

Great food for thought and a great mission.

Pica

PS I'll be working my way through the missions chronologically. More to come.

Pica, this is a great idea for a contest. I'm glad you enjoyed my mission. I certainly had fun making it. Good luck to the rest of you guys as well!

I'd love to compete in another of these contests, and would certainly submit again (hint hint ^__^)

Thanks, Starryice!

The mission is a interesting survey of independence movements. While I keep up with the news, I never sat back and thought about how many independence movements might be going on at any given time. It is always a challenge deciding between taking a broad view or going deep into any one of the situations you mentioned. Well done.

I liked your introductory quote and was glad that you incorporated it into the second to last site. UNPO was new to me and am grateful to have learned more about it. That was a great use of a portal by the way. It was kind of like a footnote only way better.

Thanks for creating the mission and for a very interesting take on the concept of independence.

Hi, Joolz!

I'll have to remember to take your mission again next year when I am trying to figure out what to do on the 4th. Might haul off and go to Chicago ... or Nepal.

There were a number of humorous sites too. I liked the reminder of what the Declaration of Independence is and is not.

Thanks for creating the mission!

Nice take on independence and selection of sites. I hadn't been thinking along these lines but it really works. You ever read Yochai Benkler's stuff?

The mission text was spare but to the point. No fluff here. Also it had a humorous ending, didn't see that one coming!

Maybe others will add portals to the mission and grow it. Now wouldn't that be open sourcey.

Nicely done, gkm314!
