Mission On (7 Replies)

I love the concept of being taken on a mission by others and sharing their bookmarks. It's a random idea - but how about the idea of a challenge and having to search through a series of links on a site before finding the link that will lead on. A different type of mission. What'dya think? Replied about 1 year ago | Permalink |

It certainly sounds more involved...and a lot more fun (yet potentially frustrating... :P)! Replied about 1 year ago | Permalink |

I agree with this. I recently went to some effort in planning a bit of a Treasure hunt using simple riddles and wikipedia (wikipedia being so large that it allows me to bury portals easily). However, the way missions are set up you just click the 'Next' button to reach the next light post. There is nothing stopping me from just clicking through to the end of the sequence of urls. It would be nice to have some sort of system where you had to find the page with the next jump point in order to succeed. This system could be set up with Portals. But: a) Portals are not considered missions and b) Portals only allow for a title and no body of text. If I want to post a narrative or a riddle then I'm stuck. It would be really cool if in the mission making section we could chose to make our mission with light posts or portals (it would suit the pathfinder/seer distinction too). Light post will work as they do, whilst Portals have a different set-up: 1) Define a start page (Title, description, url) 2) Define an end page (Title, description, url) 3) Set portals (titles, descriptions, urls (both where they are placed and where they lead to)) A traveler will start at the start page, then have to follow the sequence of portals to reach the end page. Upon reaching and end url the mission is complete. Perhaps the portals used in a mission could also be flagged as mission only portals, making them only visible whilst on the mission. These should be reset each time the quest is taken up so if you use them then loose the track the portals are not lost to you for ever you just re-start the mission(currently you can only enter a portal once after this it fades from your view). I hope these ideas help. I would rally like to make some interesting puzzle missions. Replied about 1 year ago | Permalink |

Ditto on the wish for puzzle-ish missions. While the missions-as-they-are are interesting in their content, I'm not really involved in them, since I only have to click 'next'. I'd like to be making something, assembling something, doing a puzzle and being rewarded for what I make/assemble/puzzle out. It would perhaps make even better gameplay if I would have to involve others who are around to help with missions. That way I would actually get to meet people and interact with them. Now I only think 'hey, nice, I got a gift' or 'grr, you and your stupid mines at top destinations.' There should be a choice, though: I could do single person missions, but also round up people for 2, 3, 4 etc-person missions. Replied about 1 year ago | Permalink |

Keen on the puzzle missions as well. Think a lot of depth would be added to the gameplay. Also keen on the idea of 'multiplayer missions'. Be a great way to meet other passivists. Maybe it could just play out as having more people sweep an area looking for the next portal or lighthouse. Another idea would be having something ain to keys for the portals. 2 players would sweep a site and on finding the 2 portals engage them within a certain time (say 20 seconds of each other) using chat to communicate. I've really enjoyed the missions i've been on so far and found some new favourites. This would certainly be one way to open things up. Maybe something offered up to players of a higher level? "Portals have a different set-up: 1) Define a start page (Title, description, url) 2) Define an end page (Title, description, url) 3) Set portals (titles, descriptions, urls (both where they are placed and where they lead to)) A traveler will start at the start page, then have to follow the sequence of portals to reach the end page. Upon reaching the end url the mission is complete." An extra requirement would be that all portals must have been used in order to complete the mission. And maybe the portals are only opened once the subsequent portal is used. For example when the mission starts only Portal_1 is active. When I jump through Portal_1 then Portal_2 becomes active, then jump through Portal_2 to activate Portal_3, etc etc. This way you gate the Player into following your puzzle mission step by step, limiting any exploit to fast track the quest.
