Pings are earned for social interaction right? So people who don't understand the basics of civilised society shouldn't get as many. Multiply the amount you get by your rating on your profile.
Also IMO you should have to be level 10(?) and have been here a few weeks in order to be able to rate someone. Otherwise alts etc can get a high rating.

Agreed, and I think that there is also the danger of people spamming the forums with drivel (unlike me :) ), as well as consecutive posts. On several forums I know that is frowned upon, you should rather edit the previous post, and also no one word posts allowed, unless it is a game eg word association.

Gotta agree with nieman. All it takes is one disagreement for someone to rate another player low, and get all their friends to rate that player low too, when it might not even be such a big deal, just a mining or two...(*has never EVER had this happen...of course...*).

If there are spammers or people who are being dumbasses, well, there are ways to deal with them.

I have never really heard the term retard used to refer to disabled people, just idiots.
The word retard has been used in physics etc for a very long time, and from a quick google its definition is still deceleration / to slow down, and the colloquial someone who's a bit thick.
The only times I have ever heard it applied to the mentally ill is as a generic insult or in its technical meaning, but I don't see idiot or slow being labeled as "ableist(sic)".

Yes, the idea wasn't well thought out, but who cares. I still stand behind the original concept that people shouldn't be able to earn pings by annoying people. My suggested solution may suck, but that's what discussion is for.

And no, this has nothing to do with the election, or anything else. I'm of the opinion that griefers shouldn't be rewarded. That's my opinion. Bunni3 gets to set the party opinion on things, I do what she says or quit.

And its also nothing to do with "taking the game seriously". Its don't deliberately ruin forum games etc. Or if you want to be an arsehole, don't get rewarded for it.

At the minute PMOG is for the most part a great community of supportive players, and I hope that it will continue to grow as it has done over the last months.

I just don't see it as a problem yet is all. Nobody's been really annoying about it. I don't see the point in adding a restriction against people who are doing nothing wrong so far (under level 10s, or whatever it was you had in mind). And people ABOVE level 10 can be just as annoying, frankly.

I recognize your concern but I don't think it's an issue yet. Let's not make it one till it needs to be.

Anyways just in case. As second input this has nothing to do with the elections. In fact I disagree with Davidsev's opinion about pings and ratings. Which is a first. No more of that Davidsev! lol. :D

I don't know about doing this by rating... But the idea is sound. I think I saw in the pings thread that you had to be a certain level to be able to use the pings, So that would cut back on a lot of the non players just using it to be annoying.
They should so introduce a Harry Potter style house point system. Everyone is filed in a certain association when they register, (This would have no effect other than being a default or house association) and then as you play trustee's and stewards can give you points for helping, and deduct points for being an ass. Then at the end of the year the association with the most points gets a bonus to there tools for the next year. (Destroyers do 15dp damage, Nicks last for 2 mines, Armor lasts through 4 mines... Crates hold 20 items, Portals last 60 jumps and missions earn you more dp per times taken) It's be an awesome way of increasing loyalty to our default associations...

I like that idea, although it would need a better way of assigning people, an avid destroyer who gets put in the Bedouin camp won't be very happy.

Overall I like the idea. I don't like the idea of having trustees and stewards give points. They seem like they are too busy for that kind of thing.
I think the earning of Pings should remain like they are now. Well not exactly since I don't get why looting a crate gives me more than stashing a crate. But I like how they are dealed out now, rather than trustess and stewards doing it.

There's no way that I would want to be the one handing out pings or points to anyone! Anyone at all!
