Just a few thoughts on tools:

For Destroyers:
Booby-trapped crates?.. a.k.a. mines within crates. It'd make people a bit more cautious before opening every single crate they find, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. To avoid too much abuse by Destroyers, they should be expensive! At least the price of a crate and a mine- if not more.

For Shoats/all:
Spyglass? Use the item as a way to detect what's contained in a crate before opening it. Obviously they'd have a cost to them, so players wouldn't want to use one on every crate they encounter. It'd allow players to avoid mined crates(see above) or crates with lower amounts of dp for new players.

For Bedouins:
Absorbing Armor? Armor that costs more than standard armor, and instead of just deflecting the damage, absorbs the 10dp.

Bedouins getting DP for hitting mines with their armor.. yep I would vote for that. :D

I have never understood why the 10dp you lose for tripping a mine, doesnt go to the person who laid the mine.

It seems like a pit of pay back for the money they spend buying them to lay.

Going along with the Absorbing armor, maybe portals that pay the Seer that put it there for each trip, because portals are way expensive. And maybe

Ya that's what I always figured. It's probably because no other tool does the user get DP for using it. Well I guess you could say that Pathmakers do with their lightposts.

*shrugs*
Maybe they should have it that if you don't wear armor, then the person who laid the mine gets 10DP. And if you did wear your armor.. you get 10DP?

I might actually start to have lots of bedouin allies if that worked like that. Lol!

Getting paid for portal use is a very nice idea. I'm all for it.

As for the Absorbing Armor, you'd probably end up paying more for the armor than you would get back for using it.

As I learn more about tools in pmog, I'll play devil's advocate towards my own suggestions:

The Absorbing Armor is a lame idea, the economy behind it wouldn't work out(as shrum pointed out). If the benefit of the absorbing armor pushed the net cost down below 25dp(cost of standard armor) then everyone would use it all the time. If the benefit of the absorbing armor had a net cost of anything over 25, then there would be no advantage in using it.

How about Rubber Armor(heh) that deflects the blast back at whoever set it and causes 5dp loss to the one who laid it? It could cost x2 or x3 times the amount of standard armor..?

I like the Booby-trapped crates idea! It seems like it would be fun.

Booby-trapped crates are an awesome idea and have been suggested several times. Hopefully we'll see them at some point...

Such an idea ranks highly among my desired instruments, as well.

digory, It'd be a tool of Chaos, You can't wrap a mine in a crate and claim it to be orderly.
You can't use it buddy. It's mine.

By your own deduction, then, surely you understand that you also have no right to such a tool -- by virtue of its cratelike nature? It seems we are at an impasse; however, I laid claim to it firstly.

But I can use it. Because Chaos can do whatever it wants. If we limited ourselves to only the so-called "Tools of Chaos," we'd be acting in an orderly fashion.

True, isn't that what chaos is really about? Lack of rules?

My dear sylverling, there is no honor in such a practice. It should not be called "Chaos" but rather "Apathy." True gentlemen (whether followers of Order or of Chaos) would never embrace such existential callous.

Isn't it useful that I'm not a gentleman, then?

*sylverling is a girl. an evil, yet cuddly girl.*

Funny, nobody's ever tried to tell Chaots that we had to be honorable or scrupulous before...

Exploding crates would be a tool of chaos because no matter which way you cut it, the end result is a big boom. Just like mines, which are a tool of chaos.

Four identical iterations of your argument! Your point is well-made. Very well then, I withdraw my request and lodge another.

I should very much like a crate that emits a noxious gas when opened. Also, such a device should steal coins from its victims.

That would be a tool of order. It applies a tax for it's usage in harming you!

I second this request.

I would just like to note that we've satisfied two of these requests already: Mines within crates and portals that pay Seers.

Pretty good! :D

Can the toolbar indicate if armor is on or not? Maybe the play logo could change.

@jwdoom
The toolbar cannot tell you directly. There are 2 ways to check whether you're wearing an armor or not, but you'll need one extra click on the profile:

1. Click the 'play' button and look at the text next to the armor icon. If it said 'Go Defenseless', the armoe is protecting you. If it said 'Defend Yourself', you are not protected.

2. Click on the 'profile' button. You'll see your inventories. Look at the text next to the armor icon. It will tell that you are protected (on) or not (off).

Hope this helps!
