I think there is a problem with my leveling bar.

Photobucket

I got to level 12 yesterday (woohoo!), but look - my bar is about 2/3 full, even though I've only got 100-some-odd more Lifetime DP than I needed to get to 12. I need over 14,000 Lifetime DP in order to get to 13. My bar definitely does not match my Lifetime DP.

I believe that the bar reflects a combination of dp earnt and tool use. Your Level Progress dashboard shows that you need no more tool use to proceed to the next level.

Edited to add: We would need an actual Trustee to verify this.

I've noticed that too, and I believe hat you are correct, it's a combo of DP/tool use that drives the bar up.

Honestly, I would just ignore the bar entirely.
The counter has never moved in any correct proportion to the # of Tools or DP needed, ever.
I mean, mine always looked like it needed 100 more dp, even I actually needed 100,000. So, I would just not expect it to run in any form of recognizable proportion.

As far as I know, even when you level, the bar starts by showing the DP you already have - that means you'll always start with a partially full bar. Of course, the more DP you need to level, the less the bar will apparently move even after a big loot.

I will try to simply explain it for you but I may fail.

Imagine level 12 is obtained at 50 Dp and 13 is at 100Dp if you have 75DP you are 75% of the way to level 13 so the bar would be three quarter of the way to the next level.

Change that to the actual numbers and hopefully you will see what I mean.

Your next level is 50000 I think, and you have 35000 or so, so you are around 75%,

I hope that makes sense

Regards

Craig

King Shikkah-Shikkah recently ran an experiment to see how tool use affected the bar, but he might have wandered off before it was done.

shikkah, how'd it turn out?

I'd go with Iantrus's explanation...

The bar is being reconsidered/redesigned for the next version of PMOG. I don't have more specific details, but your profile is likely the best indication of your level progress, and I'd rely on it first and foremost to figure out what you need to do in order to level.

Seven, After some pokage these are the results.
Logging into PMOG gives you DP. Thereby My plan failed faintly.
Basically, I took a brand new character, And leveled him to exactly lvl 3 (100dp + 2 mines used)
This should have zeroed his toolbar if it counts either tool usage or DP. The flaw here is that on logging in the next day to check his level, I of course hit PMOG.com, and got two DP. Still, I figure this shouldn't have too much of an effect.
His toolbar was not zeroed. In fact it was relatively full. About a quarter of the way along.
What this suggests to me is that rather than tool use and DP, it measures lifetime tool/DP usage, and then just expands the empty section on level. If I recall correctly Seven had suggested that last time when I started the experiment.

How bad is it that I went through with said experiment and then never wrote it up?

no worries. the summer lazy has captured us all.
I believe that I'll lay off trying to understand that magical mystery that is a level bar until/ if the revamp comes out.
I appreciate that you are going to look into it, burden, since I know the level bar is pretty unimportant in the grand scheme of pmog.

I always kinda looked at the level bar as a PMOG Progress quest. For those of you not in the know Here.
