Portals on sale, and a challenge (42 Replies)

Greetings friends. As you may have heard from the most recent news bulletin, Portals are on sale in the Shoppe for 10 dp. Accordingly, I am also putting forth a challenge to this community -- in my years of research and experimentation I have explored many uses for Portals and am fairly convinced no more remain to be discovered. The challenge, therefore, is to prove me wrong. I will also offer a healthy financial incentive for the most innovative ideas, be they games, puzzles, race courses or anything your mind can dream up, Orderly or Chaotic. The very best of luck to you all. Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |

Good to "see" that the Seers are being looked after too and not tossed aside. Good to hear from you Ms. Watkins.

Ah, my Mistress makes a long-awaited appearance. One of my little tricks I tried was to use portals within a mission. On each step of the mission, there was also a portal, offering to take you to an example (or an alternative, if you prefer).
*EDIT* Bugger - what happened to the portal? I wanted to take it after I posted this and now it's disappeared... Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |

I've started putting portals within missions as well as a way to give additional information (or a place to hide crates on missions). This sale will help that endeavor. Thanks! Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |

It comes as no surprise to me that the forces of evil swing their corrupt wheels into motion the instant the equilibrium is threatened. We suffer the giveaways of Mines, St. Nicks and Watchdogs, with only a token sale of crates to try and hide where the Shoppes' loyalties lie. And true to form, as soon as I announce my generous sale of Armor to loyal order followers, the hammer falls with another sale of evil tools. Perhaps I shall purchase every last portal for sale, and leave them to rust and rot. Fight fire with fire. Order Forever, Chaos Never Yours. Thomas. Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |

Might I remind you, Thomas, that without portals we would have never seen the invention of lightposts and missions. Without chaos, order cannot function (just as without order, chaos is meaningless). I approve of this challenge. Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |

I beg your pardon? Did you not read the original post? The one where portals could be used for Orderly or Chaotic purposes? Besides which - since when was chaos 'evil'?
Please be careful. Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |

Yeah dude, as PMOG President and the candidate of the Chaos Party, I sort of resent the idea that chaos=evil. No, no, no. Chaos = FUN. Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |

You guys can rant and resent all you want but the fact is Chaos = Evil, and Order = AWESOME! As a counter measure to this competition for the seers, I suggest that the good version of seers a.k.a pathmakers find other uses for lightposts other than creating missions... Chaos is the true path to enlightenment. Surrendering to pre conceived notions of "order" merely leads to restriction and eventual stagnation.
Thereby, I approve of this sale. And the idea of suggesting new uses for my brother and sisters chosen tool of enlightenment. Might I put forth the idea of Puzzle Portals? Clearly the Lightposts are worthless for creating puzzle missions now. Portals though would be easily converted to this purpose. For example. Portal A links you to a page with a puzzle on it, Portal B sits on the page that Portal A's riddle sends you to. It in turn portals you to the next riddle, and so forth until you reach the end of the riddles. Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |

@Shyiskhar: But lightposts are timeless, and can never be removed. Portals are fleeting. Also, people DO do that kind of riddle. Check out portal races sometimes. Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |

Sasha and Professor Esper are the most interesting people I've had the pleasure of seeing since I last looked into the mirror. Despite what seems to be a tricky past between the two, they still respect each other despite being on what seems to be on opposite factions. Anyways, I think a good way to find out what undiscovered features a portal can have is to know what has been discovered? Anyone care to share what they believe a portal can be used for - no matter how obvious it is to state it. At the moment I can only think of research, trickery, alternative pathfinding, and mine field redirection. Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |

I'd say you're a destroyer, 4c1dk1ng. After all, the only gift you give is damage. Replied 5 months ago | Permalink |
